Bleist did not like these creatures because of their venom, which killed in a very slow and painful way. It was also difficult to find an antidote for it, which further deepened his aversion to chimeras. Ironically, it was not the spike on the tail that was the most feared. The toxin injected by it paralysed the victim, allowing the fresh prey to be carried back to the lair. The chimera could spit deadly venom from its mouth, and thus its bites also allowed the terrible poison to enter the body.
