The boy immediately tensed. Druids never spoke idly, let alone about the future.
‘What’s going to happen?’ Einar didn’t know why his voice trembled, but he didn’t like something about the druid’s tone.
‘We’ll have visitors today.’ Heres gazed through the leaves at the cloudless sky. ‘At midday, the lookouts will spot sails that will soon reach the harbour. The ship will come from afar and bring news.’ The druid fell silent for a moment. ‘We couldn’t tell if the news is good or bad. We could see that it’s important.’ The man tore his gaze away from the sky and looked Einar in the eyes. ‘Run to the village, wake your father and tell him what I’ve said. Let him get ready.’
The boy didn’t need to be told twice. He sheathed his sword and set off running towards the settlement.
