Chapter 2: 'Friendship and hatred' (2.5/2)

‘Among us, most warriors worship Amasun or Dagothar.’

‘The Lady of Conquest and the god of the seas.’ The beastman fell silent for a moment. ‘Actually, that suits the Ytrens very well. You spend most of your lives at sea and plundering. You value warriors, their strength, their valour and… Hmmm… Honour. Although I had expected, given those recognised character traits, that there would be more followers of Solas amongst you.’

‘For us, the God of Light is more of a guardian deity. He is the one who gives us the day so we can work, and who studs the night sky with stars. He is also the one who lights the path for the dead into the afterlife, to the Queen of Darkness.’

‘Ah, light and darkness, those ill-fated lovers,’ sighed the beastman. ‘Separated by fate for all eternity.’

‘And yet weddings are held precisely by invoking Solas as a witness.’

Einar hadn’t even noticed how quickly they’d found themselves in front of his house. He himself wasn’t tired, nor was Tahon, but the other three were already panting. It seemed that the pace set by the boy wasn’t nearly as leisurely as he’d thought. However, he had no desire to wait for anything, so he simply went inside.
