Chapter 3: 'The Judgment of Gods' (2/4)

the twins and Einar would train with the beastman.

The rest of the dinner passed incredibly quickly. Immediately after the main course, the parents thanked everyone for their company and, citing their duties, took their leave. The legate did the same, and Livitus followed the mage without a word. When only Einar, Kari, Leif, Tahon and Hex, who was waiting by the door, remained in the dining room, Captain Svenson leaned back in his chair with a drawn-out sigh.

‘What a tragedy,’ he lamented to the ceiling. ‘I’ve had more fun at some funerals, I must say,’ he added, glancing at the boys.

‘It wasn’t that bad at all,’ Ceet said, propping himself up on his hand. ‘Everyone… Hmm… They ate politely and even exchanged pleasantries.’

‘Well, yes.’ Alrik glanced around the entire dining room. ‘Up north, a dinner like this wouldn’t have happened at all, and even if it had, it would have ended in a row.’

‘ . . in all its splendour.’ The twins agreed, as usual.

‘Ah, I never imagined that after eighteen years, a meeting with your father would turn out like this.’ The captain grabbed a full jug of elven wine and rose from the table. ‘I won’t leave it at that.’ He added with the determination of a true Ytren. ‘I'm going to look for Olaf,’ he declared, and with confidence set off towards the doors leading deeper into the house. ‘Cargah, be so kind as to return to the deck and keep an eye on those slackers. They’re to find those bastards before evening, so that I can break their bones myself.’ Alrik brandished his wine jug menacingly and set off on his search. Hex followed in his footsteps and quickly disappeared.

‘Well, we’re on our own now,’ Ceet sighed. ‘Time to stretch our legs a bit after such a... hmmm... hearty meal.’

‘You’re right…’

‘…just like…’

'... Einar.’ The twins stretched in unison, whilst Tahon watched them, seemingly taken by surprise. ‘Let’s go and get changed...’

’... and get ready. We’ll...’

‘… wait outside the house, but…’
